History

Mantum originated from one of Sweden’s truck centers. Most truck centers were commissioned by the Swedish Parliament to ensure the country’s transportation needs during the Second World War. The foundations of the business that is now Mantum were laid in the early 1940s. The initiative for the association was taken by a group of small business owners and truck owners who, through cooperation, saw great opportunities to charge more for their services, instead of being played off against each other as individual entrepreneurs. The result of the common interest and the prevailing times was the economic association Lastbilscentralen in Varberg. For a period, the association was split into two separate entities. In 1962, part of the association broke away from the community and formed Varbergslast AB. The Truck Center Lassabacka remained.

In 1980, the two entities found their way back to each other again and at the same time the truck association was strengthened with about ten machine owners from Gräv och Traktorcentralen in Gothenburg. Together they saw the opportunity to broaden their respective areas of activity locally within a single center. And so the trend has continued. The economic association became a limited liability company in 2009. At its peak there were over 400 truck centers in Sweden, but today there are only about 100 left. A handful of the partner companies within LBC Varberg have been involved from the start and are now run by both the 2nd and 3rd generation. Since May 14, 2011 we are now called Mantum. Well equipped for the future, which looks really exciting.
